Tax region, currency and tax type on quotes, sales orders and invoices

Last updated on Oct 08, 2026

Quotes, sales orders, invoices and purchase orders have three settings at the top of Item Details: Tax Region, Currency and Tax Type. Changing one of them updates the item lines and totals straight away. On a saved record the change is saved at once and the totals are recalculated.

Tax Region

The tax region decides which VAT rates apply.

  • Group tax: the group tax uses the rate set for the region, for example 0 % for customers outside the EU. Without a region, the tax's default rate is used.
  • Individual tax: each line uses its product's rate for the region. If the product has no rate for that region, its default rate is used.

Currency

  • A new record starts in the base currency.
  • When you change the currency, each line's price becomes the product's price in the new currency, if the product has one. Otherwise the price is converted with the exchange rate.
  • Prices you have changed by hand, purchase costs and discount amounts are converted with the exchange rate.
  • The exchange rate of the currency is saved on the record.

Tax Type

  • Group: one tax on the items total minus discount. The (+) Group tax row shows the rate, which you can change, and the tax amount.
  • Individual: tax per line. Each line shows (+) Tax with rate and amount above its net price. The items total includes the line taxes, and the group tax row is hidden.

Change the group tax rate

Enter the new rate in the (+) Group tax row. It is saved and the totals are recalculated.
